Bebop og Lula

My Norwegian friend Linn Gravdahl came to visit us in Malmo for a few days.
I’ll tell you, Linn is one talented lady to watch out for.

At the moment she is slowly building her own design business and so far she has got two Heidelberg letterpresses and a complete silk screen set up. Linn does all the designing
and her brother helps out with the printing.

Take a sneak-peak of her first cards on her website. Lots of more exciting things to come!
Guess where I will be spending next summer workshopping?

It’s not impossible to keep designing while being a full-time mum, things just move
a little slower and when you do find an opportunity to make something you have
to be super efficient, no time for over thinking.

My new designs had been ready to go to print for months but just before sending them into production I found myself losing sleep, I just felt one of the paintings wasn’t quite finished yet.
So out came the paint brushes again for some power painting, Lukas kept me company.

This particular design has become my favourite.
Now I sleep well again… kind of.

Ethical Clothing Australia

Sewing and cutting fabric has turned out to be pretty tricky while also trying to take care of
my little Lukas. He’s had a few sleeps in the baby bjorn carrier, soothed by the sound of the
sewing machine, but mostly he’d prefer that I was playing with him instead.

You meet a lot of new interesting people/mums when you are on maternity leave and learn a lot, not only about babies. One person/mum I met is Daisy Gardener who works for Oxfam.
Daisy told me about Ethical Clothing Australia who assists the local textile, clothing and
footwear industry to ensure Australian workers receive fair wages and decent conditions.
It’s not only factory workers in other countries who struggle with their working conditions, Australia too has it’s fair share of underpaid workers.

So I’m now working with a company registered with ECA who are helping to sew
my cushions and Lukas has my undivided attention. Happy baby, happy Mum.

Where it starts

When I first started my business and moved into my studio space I splurged and bought myself a big blank canvas (sounds like a bad metaphor eh?). I hadn’t painted anything for over a year and it was the perfect present for the new phase of my life. Painting is my meditation, it’s one of the few times I’m not striving to achieve something, just relaxing.

I hung my painted canvas and decided that for my next project I’d use it to create a design collection. Some time passed, and then some more… and then I was pregnant.  So I set myself a goal to complete the new painting inspired designs before I had my baby. Two days before my little man arrived I set up the final artwork for print (good boy for waiting).

I’ve managed to keep the ball rolling while my baby sleeps, and now my new collection is on it’s way, I’m so excited. I received my first test prints last week and the colours are perfect. It’s going to be a new small collection in time for summer! I’ll keep you posted.
